Cement sales have decreased when compared year-over-year for the second consecutive month after 13 months of growth. With total sales of 1,323.6 94 lb bags in July, sales fell 7% compared to June and grew 2% compared to the same month in 2020. Accumulated sales in 2021 are 9,507.7 bags, 33% more than in the same period in 2020. However, when we analyze the accumulated cement production, there is a total of 4,363.5 bags, -33% than for the same period in 2020. Production has been reducing since May 2021 when comparing year-over-year. When comparing month-over-month, July fell 7% after the 20% growth in June.
Increasing costs for materials could be contributing to the overall lack of growth in construction in recent months. With billions in federal aid and reconstruction funds left however, we can expect elevated levels of activity in the construction industry to continue.
