The Local Area Unemployment statistics program in partnership with the Institute of Statistics of Puerto Rico released the employment and unemployment statistics for September. The LAUS published results divided by regions they identify.
Labor force in September grew in all regions, standing out the San Juan-Carolina-Caguas MSA, Arecibo MSA and Aguadilla-Isabela MSA with an increase of 3,015; 452 and 380 respectively. When comparing to 2020, the labor force the San Juan-Carolina-Caguas MSA had an increase of 8,048 people.
Employment in September, m-o-m increased for all regions, standing out the San Juan-Carolina-Caguas MSA with an increase of 10,887 people. The rest of the regions grew between 1,612 and 312 people. Compared to 2020, the San Juan-Carolina-Caguas MSA, Ponce MSA and Aguadilla MSA grew by 22,877; 3,141 and 3,111 people respectively.
Unemployment in September lowered in all regions. Compared to 2020, the decreases that most stand out are in the San Juan-Carolina-Caguas MSA, Ponce MSA and Aguadilla-Isabela MSA with a reduction of 7,872; 1,286 and 1,232 people. The lowest unemployment rate was registered in Guaynabo with 4.5, followed by Gurabo and Cidra with 5.1 and 5.5.
