According to data from Southeast Aeroports Group (ASUR), in July, 1,118,931 passengers passed through the airport of San Juan. Passenger traffic is 91.2% higher in the first seven months of this year than in the same period last year, but 2.3% lower than in 2019.
In July, traffic tripled compared to the previous year’s same month, representing a 15.6% increase over July 2019. This is the second time this year that monthly passenger volume has surpassed one million.
Domestic passenger traffic surged by 196.1%, from 351,932 in July 2020 to 1,042,005 this year. Domestic traffic is up 22.3% compared to the same month last year.
International traffic was severely disrupted by the pandemic in 2020. The total for this year showed a large percentage increase, 540%, due to the ongoing normalization of international air travel. International traffic for the year to date has increased by 14.5% relative to 2020.
Overall, the last 5 months have shown a return to pre-pandemic traffic totals in the airport. As vaccination rates continue to increase, we can expect these totals to remain strong.
