New car sales in the month of June 2021 in Puerto Rico totaled 11,636. Compared to the previous month of May, new car sales decreased by 8.3% but managed to remain above 10,000 for the 9th consecutive month. When compared to June 2020, there has been an increase of 9.3%. When compared with June 2019, there has been an increase of 14.5%
Low-interest rates and federal stimulus programs have contributed to this increase in sales. However, supply chain issues could lead to long waits for new cars, which could lead to a decrease in sales in the coming months.
- Compared to May, the market share for US brands decreased by 6.7 percentage points.
- Market share for Japanese brands decreased by 6.0 percentage points.
- Market share for Korean brands went down by 15.7 percentage points.
- European brands had a month-over-month increase in market share of 5.7 percentage points.
